Browser Capabilities

JavaScript

Required for the application and workspace tools.

Cookies

Required for sign-in and secure session management.

Local storage

Used for your interface preferences and open tabs.

WebGL

Required for interactive 3D molecular and scientific viewers.

Operating System and Display

CATO runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iPadOS, and other systems that can run a supported browser. A desktop or laptop viewport of 1280 × 720 or larger is recommended for the three-pane research workspace; smaller screens remain usable for focused tasks.

Network Requirements

TransportOutbound HTTPS on port 443
StreamingLong-lived HTTPS connections and server-sent events must not be blocked or buffered
UploadsA stable connection is recommended; practical bandwidth depends on file size
Firewall or VPNAllow the CATO domain

Managed networks: if responses remain on “Connecting,” arrive all at once, or reconnect repeatedly, ask IT to disable proxy buffering and aggressive idle timeouts for the CATO domain. Content filters should also permit file uploads and downloads.
